ACCRA SLUMS

BLOG AGENDA
This blog is dedicated to exploring at length the activities, sometimes normal, other times weird of slum dwellers in the capital. Many a times we perceive such settlements as crime-prone and a haven for perpetuators of all manner of social vices, but aside from the stereotypical portrayal of such communities, I am glad to announce to you that, some very productive enterprises thrive in a number of such slums, activities that can potentially contribute to the national kitty, directly and indirectly.
Other usually unreported aspects of life in these slums are the very focus of this human interest blog. This blog would attempt to explore in totality life and activities in some top city slums, without laying too much emphasis on the normal defects of such areas and their inhabitants.
Among a number of slums to be discovered are Krokoyili, Chorkor-Chemuenaa, Boi-a more rural community than a slum, etc.
Children, who have long been touted as future leaders of every country, very often find themselves either by design or default, in city slums in the country. Their parents who have been victims of circumstances, who find themselves in such areas, are simply unable to give them any solid upbringing, a situation which is worrying.
This has over the years been partly cited, as the prime cause of increasing rate of crime as recorded by city authorities.
But, is it all doom and gloomy for people who find themselves living in such maligned and neglected settlements? Are they always the havens for society’s derelicts who can barely put body and soul together?
Perhaps not, despite all these undeniable truths, there always has to be a story behind the story. With each passing day, there brings renewed hope and belief among these slum dwellers that someday life could be better for them, and their dependents.
Although they fear a massive wipe out in the event city authorities plan to destroy their livelihoods, they are encouraged by the opportunity of life and a chance to attempt to right the wrongs of the past.
These and perhaps, much more would be spotlighted on this blog. I am Kingsley Komla Adom, and I would be your blogger, reporter and anchor.
